Macbeth Summary

Macbeth turns his attention to Banquo and his descendants.

Banquo had witnessed Macbeth become everything the witches foretold. As a result of this, Macbeth began to worry Banquo’s descendants would become kings as the prophecy foretold and not his own children. Consequently, Macbeth had Banquo assassinated & tried to… (in your best geezer accent)… ‘Make it look like a bleedin’ accident’.

What is Being Said:

Narrator: Banquo had seen Macbeth become everything the witches foretold. Macbeth then began to worry about the part of the prophecy where Banquo’s descendants would be kings but his would not.
Macbeth: He knows too much.
Banquo: You now have everything the witches predicted.
Narrator: So Macbeth invited all the local leaders to a party at his house and hired assassins to kill Banquo and his son Fleance. While Banquo and his son were on the way to the party they were ambushed and Banquo was killed.
Banquo: Oh the treachery.
Narrator: But Banquo’s son managed to escape.
Banquo: Run Fleance so you can avenge me.
